Objective of the project sponsored by Sony was the conception and prototyping of a commercial promoting Sony's robot dog AIBO. Featured with artificial intelligence and the ability to learn, AIBO was supposed to be a substitute for a "human's best friend" that can be switched off. Lifechip 1.0 depicts the metaphorical "birth" of an AIBO and should be followed by a series of clips showing the adolescence and learning experiences of AIBO allowed by the AIBO Lifechip.
